ULFAs elusive commander-in-chief Paresh Barua today alleged that his son was abducted in order to exert pressure on him to surrender.
In a statement issued to the media,Barua did not give details of where and when his son was kidnapped. I suspect that this is part of a conspiracy to exert mental pressure on me to surrender and give up my ideology. I am,however, not one of those who will give up his ideology and principles. I would rather take pride in sacrificing my sons life in the interest of my principles, he said.
Baruas statement comes at a time when ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowas bail petition has been heard and an order is likely to be issued. While most top ULFA leaders have been arrested and released on bail,Barua has remained elusive.
A few days ago,the ULFA claimed that top leaders Antu Chawdang and Pradeep Chetia were picked up on December 13 and since then there has been no word on them. Security agencies said they have no information on the claim made by Barua and said his family was still in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the top Bangladesh diplomat in India has said he has no information about the alleged abduction.
I have no information, Bangladesh High Commissioner Tariq Ahmad Karim told reporters in New Delhi when asked about Baruas claims.
Karim, who met Home Minister P Chidambaram, said they discussed cooperation between the two countries in different areas. With PTI
