The West Bengal CPI(M) on Tuesday sent out a message to its party ranks across the state for targeting the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as its main opponent in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. It asked the cadres to carry out aggressive campaign to label the TMC as an anarchist party which spoiled the states development and industrialisation plans.
In a meeting of party state committee, election managers termed the TMC more harmful for the Marxists than the Congress, keeping in mind Mamata Banerjees dent in CPI(M)s rural vote bank. Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Commerce and Industries Minister Nirupam Sen also attended the meeting. Party state secretary Biman Bose has laid down the poll campaign strategy.
Sources said after analysing May 2008 panchayat poll results, top leaders of the party found that at the grassroots level TMC supporters worked as the nucleus to create a united opposition which virtually ousted the CPI(M) from several panchayat bodies across the state.
We are still waiting for the so-called alliance between the TMC and Congress. If finally they can reach a tie-up,we can change our strategy, said a senior leader.
The 83-member state committee has also finalised its list of candidates and identified seven LS constituencies where the Congress will be their main enemy during the elections. The seven seats are Darjeeling,Raigunge,Malda North,Malda South,Jangipur,Murshidabad and Behrampore.
The Union Cabinets green signal to the Nayachar chemical hub on Monday and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjees recent role in helping the state Government get a number of pending projects cleared, have forced the CPI(M) leadership in the state to draw a line of difference between the two opposition parties. Pleased with the Centres decision to clear the Nayachar chemical hub,Bhattacharjee on Tuesday thanked the Union Minister for Petroleum Ram Vilas Paswan for his efforts in giving a go-ahead to the project.
