FOR the sake of greater autonomy and efficiency, the Railway Ministry has cut the umbilical chord that attaches it to its Public Sector Undertaking, the IRCTC. It has decided to change the current arrangement in which Member,Traffic,of the Railway Board acts as the chairman of IRCTC. The post of chairman is being merged with that of the managing director to create the position of CMD. Merging the two posts is expected to give IRCTC greater autonomy in deciding on new ventures without worrying too much about the Railway Boards red tape. Officials say efforts are on to fill up the two vacant posts.
