The numbers game

The unbending attitude of state governments on providing police forces is not limited to IPL alone. Even the Election Commission is not finding it easy,with many states pleading that they cant spare the numbers promised earlier for genuine reasons. The EC has therefore informed the Home Ministry that it may need more manpower than was indicated earlier. The Commission initially asked for about 750 companies of additional paramilitary forces plus state Home Guards. Now,it is said to have asked the ministry to arrange for more central forces.
