To give an impetus to the study of Indian glaciers,The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has signed a first-of-its-kind Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Mountaineering Federation (IMF),hoping to combine the scientific study and assessment of India’s receding glaciers with training for the necessary expertise needed for climbing high mountains. The agreement was signed by TERI Director General R K Pachauri and IMF President H S Ahluwalia on Wednesday.

Mountaineers say that in the high altitudes, effects of climate change have begun to show. “We have met the Prime Minister twice on the issue of the changing high-altitude landscapes,” said Ahluwalia. The training will be given to TERI scientists and later to other students, thus opening the doors for glaciology.
