Tax proposed on vehicles entering Shimla from other states

Corporation proposed to levy Rs 100 on vehicles from other states entering corporation area.

The Shimla Municipal Corporation has proposed to impose a ‘green’ tax on all vehicles entering areas under its jurisdiction from other states on the pattern of Manali resort.

A resolution to this effect will be put before the House in the next meeting of the Corporation,a SMC spokesman said on Tuesday.

Amendment Act 2011,the corporation has been authorised under the JNNURM Act and Shimla is one of the town selected under the Mission,he said.

The proposal has been incorporated in the amended Corporation Act,he added.

The spokesman said the Corporation has also proposed to levy Rs 100 on each vehicle entering corporation area of the town from other states.

It is likely to generate an annual revenue of Rs 2-3 crore. The income from the green tax would be spent on the improvement of environment and civic amenities in the town,he added.
