Even as the Ministry for Shipping,Road Transport amp; Highways is working on a proposal to trim the number of dignitaries allowed to use red beacons on their vehicles,the Ministry of Defence has put it in a spot. While the present rules allow only officers of the rank of Major Generals and above to use the red beacons,the MoD has proposed that the privilege be extended to Brigadiers as well. The Roads Ministry is finding it difficult to accommodate the demand,fearing that it may set off a chain reaction.
