Hours after participating in an LGBT lesbian gay bisexual transgender pride rally on Sunday,a 21-year-old engineering student allegedly committed suicide.
Vamshi Raju,a student of Sambhram Institute of Technology in Jalahalli, allegedly consumed poison at his house in Gokula in Yeshwanthpur police station limits early on Monday, reportedly after he was scolded by his father Muniraju for attending the rally. A member of Sangama,an association of the sexual minorities, accused his parents of harassment after seeing visuals of him dancing at the event on TV.
Last year,he was prevented from attending college for two months by his parents over this issue. The police can investigate, he said, adding,He was going through a lot of harassment. His family did not like him interacting with members of the sexual minority.
A death note left behind by Vamshi, however, did not refer to problems at home over his sexual orientation,Deputy Commissioner of Police north Sandeep Patil said.
We have not come across this aspect. If anyone files a complaint in this regard,we will take necessary action. The parents have said it is a case of suicide and the death note says the same, he said. In the note,Vamshi says he was taking the extreme step because he was not a good student, nor a good son and because his parents were disappointed with him.
Muniraju reportedly found Vamshi frothing at the mouth and vomiting at around 2 am on Monday and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
