Old habits die hard. This was more than evident during the first session of the 15th Lok Sabha when the one-time Hindutva poster boy Kalyan Singh had to suddenly make a shift to include his new found ally Samajwadi Partys lexicon in his speech. Speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the Presidents Address,Kalyan Singh expressed his opposition to the Womens Reservation Bill underlining the need for representation of backward classes and Dalits. Then suddenly his flow was disturbed by a nudge from SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, asking him to put more emphasis on akhaliyat minorities in his address. So,almost like a second thought,Kalyan started to speak about minorities too. Incidentally,Mulayam has found some supporters in the BJP camp to the SPs opposition to the Womens Reservation Bill. While BJP general secretary Vinay Katiyar has made his opposition public, several others were seen rushing out of the House to catch Mulayam in the elevator to express solidarity with him while conveying their political compulsions.
