Spurned man pours acid on sleeping girl

A 19-year-old girl sustained 40 per cent burn injuries after a man poured acid on her on Thursday in Badanaukana village,Kendrapara.

The critically injured girl was taken to SCB medical hospital in Cuttack.

Villagers said the incident took place at 2 am on Thursday while the victim was asleep in her bedroom. The accused allegedly poured the acid in through her window and fled the spot,sources said.

The incident took place in Bandanauka village,which comes under the jurisdiction of the Rajnagar police station.

The police have launched a manhunt to nab the the accused,Alekh Mandal,a self-styled physician,who was staying near the victims house.

The police said the trio from Chandigarh — Rohan (21), Sumit (22), and Mohit (19) — were dhol players by profession and had procured the weapons due to an old rivalry with local residents.
