Speedy Singhs tells the story of a young Sikh lad,Rajveer Singh Vinay Virmani,who lives in a suburb in Toronto. Rajveer is an aspiring ice-hockey player,but because of his race,he fails to secure a place for himself in the local hockey team even after cutting his hair in an effort to look more Canadian. So he gathers his Punjabi buddies to form a team of their own and appoints Dan Winters Rob Lowe as the coach. The film about a small group of South-East Asian immigrants trying to form a hockey team strongly reminds us of co-producer Akshay Kumar8217;s Patiala House except that in the film Akshay was an aspiring bowler.

The international version of the film is titled Breakaway,while the Indian version is called Speedy Singhs. Speedy Singhs is Akshay Kumar8217;s first Indo-Canadian venture and he features in a cameo in the film
