Sony Music has announced strategic investment plans of $4 mn for the Tamil music market this year.

Sony Music has announced strategic investment plans of $4 mn for the Tamil music market this year. As part of expanding business in the South,Sony has acquired Think Music Catalog doubling its music repertoire with a 50 per cent market- share. Sony has also signed digital distribution deal with three major south players Anak Audio Pvt. Ltd.,Ayangaran International and Geethanjali Audio Pvt. Ltd. Sony India & Middle-East president Shridhar Subramaniam said,“We have always believed in the potential of Tamil cinema and music and have been actively making investments and creating new benchmarks with every release. We have also established digital distribution deals with the three biggest players,further cementing our commitment in the market. This year,over $ 4 million strategic investment has been planned for the Tamil music market and we promise to present our listeners and partners with a wide array of songs to choose from.”

The exclusive distribution deals for both Anak and Ayngaran are for a period of three years. Anak and Ayangaran have a rich Tamil film catalogue that includes films like Chandramukhi,Sachin,Kuruvi,Chellamay,Anniyan,Billa,Vasool Raja MBBS,Saamy to name a few. With Geetanjali Audio,Sony Music will enter the non-film music category,covering the largest audio / video catalogue including devotional,classical,instrumental,wedding collection,Yoga etc.

Sony Music has also acquired the music of the Vijay starrer Velayudham,Ajit’s Mankatha,Suriya’s Ezham Arivu,Simbu’s Poda Podi and Jiiva’s Vandhaan Vendraan. Sony is now associated with all the big production houses and independent producers in Tamil Nadu.
