Two separate complaints one of sexual assault and the other of rape were registered with the Jehangirpura police station here on Sunday against self-styled godman Asaram Bapu and his son Narayan Sai. The complaints by two sisters,who had joined two different ashrams of Asaram in 1997 and 2002 respectively,and were allegedly confined and threatened.
Complaints were also registered against Asarams wife and daughter,as both of them had allegedly threatened the victims. The complaint of rape registered against Asaram was transferred to Ahmedabad City police as the alleged incident had taken place at his Motera-based ashram.
Both the victims are residents of Surat. The police said that the sisters,both married now,came out against Asaram and his son following a recent complaint lodged by a minor girl in Rajasthan.
The police said that the elder sister was 14 years old when she joined Asarams ashram at Jehangirpura in 1997,stayed there as a sevika,and also travelled to Motera ashram. As per her allegations,from 2001 to 2007,she was regularly raped by Asaram. She alleged that Asaram had unnatural sex with her many times. The younger sister was 17 when she joined Asar-ams ashram in Jehangirpur. From 2002 to 2005,she was allegedly raped by Narayan Sai at Gambhoi ashram in Sabarkantha and at another ashram in Patna. The younger sister allegedly had to accompany Narayan Sai at different places in Madhya Pradesh and Kathmandu.
The police said the sisters were threatened by the disciples of Asaram and Narayan Sai,Asarams wife and daughter. The younger sister returned home in 2005 and the elder in 2007. The police have registered the complaints under various sections of the IPC.
Surat Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthaana said,Both were allegedly repeatedly raped by Asaram and his son at different time intervals and at different places.
