The governments of Karnataka and Maharashtra have asked the people from Assam and other Northeast states who had fled in the wake of threats and rumours in the past two weeks to return to their workplaces and educational institutions,with chief ministers Jagadish Shettar and Prithviraj Chavan assuring full security. Maharashtra Chief Minister Chavan called me today afternoon and said he was even ready to arrange special chartered flights to facilitate speedy return of the people from the Northeast, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told The Indian Express on Thursday. Karnataka CM Shettar said he was ready to visit the Northeastern region to instill confidence among those who had fled from his state. My government has taken all measures to safeguard the interests of the people of the Northeastern states residing in Karnataka, he said in a statement to Assam.
