Investigations into the murder of 61-year-old woman,Ushasri Samal, allegedly by her husband Somnath Parida,a retired Army doctor, have found that the accused is a social recluse with little social contacts.
The police had arrested Parida,71,on charges of killing his wife in a fit of rage on Friday night. He then cut her body into 100 pieces and stashed them in small tiffin carriers over the last three weeks. The body parts have been sent for forensic examination to the SCB Medical College and Hospital,Cuttack.
DCP Bhubaneswar Nitinjeet Singh, who had quizzed Parida on Saturday, described the doctor as a sadistic emotionless man who had next to nothing social contacts. When we questioned him he said he was a teetotaller and never attended any parties. He never got along well with his kin or his neighbours in Nayapalli area, Singh said.
The DCP said he even never kept in touch with his brothers children. He used to hit the bed at 6 pm and woke up at 3 am. The couple did not get along well with their children. He was a social recluse, Singh said.
The police are waiting for Paridas son and daughter to return from abroad. The police said questioning them will throw more light about the past life of Parida. During interrogation,he claimed that his wife was a very domineering and nagging person. While the doctor had a humble background, the wife was comparatively well-off. The couple never had peaceful marital life, the DCP said.
The police were intrigued by the doctors calmness. Even after killing,he continued to attend the clinic in a private hospital. There was no change in his behaviour, the DCP said.
He said Parida had repaired the AC of his car. We guess he was planning to take his wifes body parts in the car and dispose it off in different places, the DCP said.
The police said it would be difficult to prove the murder in court as there are no eyewitnesses. We are trying to get his diary, the SIM card of his cellphone and other evidence to build a watertight case. But first we have to know the exact date of the murder and then build our case accordingly, said Nayapalli police station inspector Anup Kanungo.
