The Shiv Sena on Wednesday unleashed a scathing attack on Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi over his Mumbai-for-all remark, saying the Congress leader is totally frustrated and that it will not tolerate anything spoken against Marathi pride.
The Sena also raked up Rahuls mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhis foreign origin with Bal Thackeray saying in an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamna Mumbai may belong to all Indians but how can it belong to an Italian mummy.
The Prince of Congress is totally frustrated and it is in this frustration he has insulted Marathi people and Maharashtra, Bal Thackeray said.
He said Mumbai was not a dharamshala (guesthouse) of the country that anyone comes to Mumbai, spits here and leaves.
The Saamna also said Rahul has lost his mental balance as he has not got married in time. Saying that Mumbai was protected by Bihari commandos is an insult to many brave men like Karkare,Salaskar,Kamte,Ombale who were martyred in the war against terror, said the editorial.
It said Rahuls great grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru could not move freely in Mumbai after his comments against Marathi and Mumbai and warned Rahul against making irresponsible statements regarding the city.
Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said the Mumbai-for-all debate was a conspiracy by the Congress to sever Mumbai and Vidarbha from Maharashtra. Speaking to reporters here,Uddhav said the Shiv Sena would take to the streets,if necessary,on the issue.
He also slammed Chief Minister Ashok Chavan for making a U-turn on making it mandatory for applicants for new taxi permits to have knowledge of Marathi under pressure from Delhi.
Meanwhile, the Congress maintained silence on the attack by the Sena on party president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul. We would not like to dignify these undignified remarks, AICC spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said in New Delhi. She said there was a pernicious attempt by Shiv Sena to k the country on regional identities.
