Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,who underwent a bypass surgery on Saturday,is making excellent progress in recovery and will be taken out of the Intensive Care Unit at AIIMS by Wednesday,the surgeon who operated on him said on Monday.
He is responding very well to the treatment. The Prime Minister will be taken out of ICU by Wednesday, Dr Ramakant Panda,a specialist from Mumbais Asian Heart Institute,said.
The Prime Minister has started taking semi-solid food,a government statement said,adding that several of his invasive monitoring lines have been removed.
The PMs Media Adviser Deepak Sandhu said Singh,who sat up in the morning and spoke to family members and doctors,was eager to resume work as soon as possible.
Dr Panda expressed hope that he would take the Prime Minister for a walk in the next few days.
Leaders from across the world,including US President Barack Obama,have sent in their best wishes for his speedy recovery.
Expressing gratitude to them and the countless others who have wished him good health,the Prime Minister said he was deeply touched by the love showered on him,according to a statement. He was said to be especially overwhelmed by the abundance of good wishes that have come in from children,many of whom have prayed for his quick recuperation.
Meanwhile,UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi visited AIIMS to enquire about the Prime Ministers health. She spent about 15 minutes at the premier health institute and spoke to Singhs family members.
