Days before an important byelection in his home state Kerala,Defence Minister A K Antony today said the hike in the price of petrol was not correct. Oil companies should have shown some propriety before deciding to effect such a steep hike,Antony said on the sidelines of the election campaign in Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram district. The minister added that the Centre was not considering an increase in the prices of diesel and LPG.

Kerala observed a dawn-to-dusk hartal to protest the petrol price hike. Petroleum Minister Jaipal Reddy justified the increase in prices.
