The CPI(M)’s Kerala Committee on Thursday endorsed the poll review report which found Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan’s violation of the Leninist principles of the organisation vis-à-vis the SNC-Lavalin case as the prime factor behind the rout of the party-led LDF in the elections. It accepted factionalism, the jinxed PDP alliance, sulking Janata Dal(S) and alienation of Christian votes as the other elements that led to the fall of the party in the elections.

During the discussions, party general secretary Prakash Karat pulled up both Achuthanandan and state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan. If Achuthanandan faced criticism for his anti-party stand on the Lavalin case,Vijayan drew flak for the organisational flaws, antagonising the JD(S) and the PDP affair.

Indirectly admitting the breakdown of the CPI(M) machinery,Vijayan told the media after the meeting that the party leadership had failed to sense the impending backlash from the electorate during electioneering. “That the party had got alienated from the masses will be taken seriously and a introspection done to rectify the mistakes. Comrades who committed mistakes will be corrected and the party will go for an ideological campaign in the backdrop of the electoral debacle.”

During the press conference,Vijayan, without naming Achuthanandan, said the violation of the Leninist principles of organisation had created abhorrence about the party among the public. That situation had emerged as a major stumbling block in preventing the anti-party campaign unleashed by the Congress-led United Democratic Front.

But Vijayan was reluctant to delve into the details regarding who had violated the Leninist principles of organisation.
