Om Puri seeks anticipatory bail in wife assault case

A day after veteran actor Om Puri’s wife Nandita approached the Versova police station in Mumbai and filed a complaint of assault against him,the actor moved the sessions court seeking anticipatory bail. The application will be heard on Wednesday.

On August 22,Nandita had filed a case alleging that Puri beat her up with a wooden stick. The Versova police station filed an FIR against him. When the police went to the couple’s Versova residence to arrest the actor,he was not in there.

Through his lawyer,Puri tried to get his application heard before the court on urgent basis,which was not considered and kept for hearing on Wednesday.

The 62-year-old actor has been booked under Section 324 (punishment for causing hurt by dangerous means),Section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and was declared absconding in the case.
