Chief Minister Narendra Modi will fast in Godhra for a day as part of his ongoing Sadbhavana Mission on January 20,a Friday. Earlier, there was speculation that his fast in this communally sensitive town would coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Godhra train carnage.
The significance of this fast is not lost on his government, which is planning to put up an exhibition to showcase developments undertaken by each department in the last 10 years. The BJPs minority cell in Godhra has been asked to galvanise as many Muslims it can for the event,to drive home the point of harmony. Ramzani Zuzara, president of BJPs minority cell in the Panchmahals district, had earlier indicated that Modi would fast in Godhra in February.
Modi launched his Sadbhavana Mission fasts soon after last years Supreme Court verdict on Zakia Jafris petition that had alleged his role in the 2002 riots. The apex court had left it to the concerned trial court to decide if it warranted any proceedings against Modi. Seizing the moment,Modi began his Sadbhavana Mission with a three-day fast on September 17-19 in Ahmedabad, where he announced he would fast for a day in each district.
