S S ALAM had just dozed off when the fire alarm later found to be have been false and screaming of the fellow passengers on board the Jet Konnect flight 9W 2302 woke him up. I was on sedatives to ease my pain he underwent a surgery on Tuesday and so I dozed off. I was woken up by three ladies screaming in the seat in front of me, Alam told The Sunday Express. Everyone was running towards the doors. Alam too ran and slid down the chute the crew had deployed, safely, with a few bruises. But,around a dozen passengers jumped from emergency exits and were injured. The injuries could have been prevented had the crew done a better job,Alam said. Since most of the crew members were at the rear end, nobody told them how to exit properly from the emergency exits, he said. It was these passengers,Alam said, who suffered sprains and fractures. The crew should have been evenly distributed throughout the plane, but most of them were at the rear. There was a lot of confusion near the front of the aircraft, Alam said. That was not the end of all troubles. After they were evacuated, the passengers had to wait in a bus for over half an hour because it did not have a driver,Alam said. There were four injured people in the bus groaning with pain. They should have been attended to in time, he said. But stretchers were brought about 30-40 minutes later. Alam finally left for Chennai around midnight. My family had heard about the incident and they were worried since I was travelling alone after my surgery. So I asked to be taken in the next immediate flight, though I was very scared after this harrowing experience,Alam said.
