No vegetables under Rs 15/kg in Delhi

Consumers are paying through their nose for their daily dose of green.

Consumers are paying through their nose for their daily dose of green with prices of most vegetables hovering in the range of Rs 15 to Rs 60 a kilogram and no fruit costing below Rs 22 a kg in the National Capital.

As per prices in government-run Safal,beans is the most expensive green vegetable at Rs 60 a kg.

Among gourds,pointed gourd (parwal) is the costliest at Rs 24 a kg,followed by ridge gourd (tori) at Rs 20 a kg and bitter gourd (karela) that costs Rs 22 per kg.

While capsicum costs Rs 36 a kg,lady’s finger (bhindi) is priced at Rs 18.75 a kg and raw banana is ruling at Rs 24 a kg. Spinach (palak) is the cheapest green vegetable at Rs 12.75 a kg.

Among other vegetables,arvi costs Rs 38 a kg,brinjal Rs 30 a kg and cauliflower Rs 40 per kg.

The only vegetables that cost below Rs 15 are onion at Rs 11.90 a kg,potato at Rs 8.90 a kg and tomato at Rs 13.9 a kg.

Likewise,no fruit in the national capital costs less than Rs 22 a kg.

Mangoes cost anywhere between Rs 35 and Rs 95 for a kg in Delhi,while pomegranates happen to be the most expensive at Rs 110 per kg.

Grapes,apples and pears are all costly at Rs 96,Rs 95 and Rs 75 per kilogram,respectively. Litchi is priced at Rs 70 a kg.

The poor man’s fruit banana is also expensive at Rs 22 a kg with melon too costing an equal amount per kg at Safal.

Watermelon and papaya are the only fruits that cost less than Rs 20 a kg at Rs 9.5 and Rs 18 per kg,respectively.

Food inflation rose to 16.44 per cent for the week ended May 1,mainly due to high prices of fruits and vegetables.
