A day after an FIR was filed against former Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh in a disproportionate assets case,Mumbai Police officials involved in the High Court directed probe said Wednesday it was “not necessary’’ to question Singh or his family members, who have been named as accused.

Singh, his wife Maltidevi, son Narendra Kumar, daughter Sunita,daughter-in-law Ankita and son-in-law Vijaykumar Singh would “in all likelihood not be required for questioning”,the sources said.

On February 22,the High Court had directed Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik to investigate a disproportionate assets case against Singh, who resigned from his post shortly after the ruling, and submit a report by April 19.

The court had also ordered the police to attach the properties belonging to him and his family.
