NEW DELHI: India has said it is not expecting any ‘big bang’ breakthrough during the upcoming visit by Obama but is looking at ‘concrete and significant’ steps to widen the range of areas for cooperation. Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao on Tuesday said the two countries had completed the remaining steps for implementation of the civil nuclear cooperation agreement and India welcomes the “commencement of commercial negotiations between Indian operators and US companies”. “It (Obama’s visit) will be an opportunity to consolidate all that we have built in the past decade. We are not at a stage in our relationship for dramatic breakthroughs and big bang,” Rao said at the concluding session of the Second FICCI-Brookings Dialogue on India-US Strategic Partnership in the Capital.

Omar,Shabana,Javed to attend PM’s dinner

NEW DELHI: J-K CM Omar Abdullah,actor Shabana Azmi and her lyricist husband Javed Akhtar are among the people invited to attend PM Manmohan Singh’s private dinner for US President Barack Obama on November 7. Omar was a special invitee when former US presidents Bill Clinton and George W Bush visited India. According to a tweet by Azmi,she and Akhtar have been invited. Sources said NSA Shivshankar Menon and Deputy Chairman,Planning Commission,Montek Singh Ahluwalia were likely to be in the select gathering.

24-hr Maoist bandh against visit

KOLKATA: Maoists Tuesday called for/ a 24-hour nationwide shutdown on November 8 to protest against Obama visit . “The Maoist Central Committee will observe a 24-hour Bharat Bandh on November 8,” Maoist Central Committee member Kishenji said over the phone to PTI.
