NFDC releases six Tagore films

To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore,the National Film Development

To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore,the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) has brought out a commemorative collection of six DVDs,titled Tagore Stories On Film. The project was commissioned by Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The set comprises five films based on Tagore’s stories,plus two documentaries on the late poet’s life. It includes 1960’s national award winning Bengali film based on Tagore’s story Khudito Pashan (Hungry Stones),by Tapan Sinha,and the 1961 Bengali film Teen Kanya,directed by the legendary Satyajit Ray,which is based on three stories by Tagore — The Post Master,Monihara and Samapti. The others are Balraj Sahni’s Kabuliwala (1961),Ghare Baire (Home And The World) (1984),Kumar Shahani’s 1997 film,Char Adhyay and the documentary Natir Puja,which is a compilation of the available footage of a silent film that was directed by Tagore himself. The DVD set is available for Rs 399.

Official Cricket World Cup DVDs released

Sony Pictures Home Video has released two DVDs that recapture India’s successful cricket World Cup campaign early this year. The first DVD,titled The Official Highlights,takes the viewer through the action from the unpredictable groups stages,including arguably the most exciting tie in ICC World Cup history,the memorable major upsets and some sensational individual performances. It also contains extensive coverage from all the nail biting matches in the knockout stages involving the biggest names in the sport as they look to pursue their ambitions of World Cup success. The second DVD,called WC Diaries,gives a behind-the-scenes footage to viewers and features never seen before material and interviews with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar,Yuvraj Singh,Ricky Ponting,Graeme Smith,Andrew Strauss and many more as well as the best of the on-field action. The Official Highlights is priced at Rs 499 and WC Diaries is available for Rs 599.

Oscar winner Black Swan on DVD and Blu-ray

Natalie Portman won an Academy Award for her role of a ballerina in Black Swan. Playing her role with perfection,Nina (Portman) reacts to each act of the Swan Lake story with increasing signs of a mental breakdown. In the end,her obsession with being perfect causes her to re-enact the story of Swan Lake itself. The psychological thriller directed by Darren Aronofsky and also stars Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis in supporting roles. Black Swan is priced at Rs 499 (DVD) and Rs 1299 (DVD and Blu-ray combo).

Dum Maaro Dum out on Home Video
