Bombs,mortars mar start to first Iraq vote since US exit
BAGHDAD: A dozen small bombs exploded and mortar rounds landed near polling centres in Iraq on Saturday,wounding at least four during voting in the countrys first provincial elections since the departure of US troops. Two mortar rounds injured three voters and a policeman at a school used as a voting centre in Latifiya,south of Baghdad,soon after the start of the ballot that will measure parties political strength before parliamentary elections in 2014. Small bombs exploded in Tuz Khurmato,Tikrit and Samarra in the north and six more mortar rounds landed in a town near the southern city of Hilla,without causing any injuries,said police. Reuters
Italian President Napolitano elected for second term
rome: Italian President Giorgio Napolitano was elected for a second term on Saturday following a last minute deal among party chiefs to break the deadlock after five previous ballots failed to produce a winner. With the support of all major parties except the 5-Star Movement,Napolitano easily won the vote,which required more than 50 percent of votes in a special sitting of both houses of parliament. Napolitano,who at 87 is already among the world8217;s oldest heads of state,may not serve the full seven-year term and could resign after the political stalemate that has lasted since an inconclusive February election is solved. reuters
Kate to move to her parents place after babys birth in july
LONDON: Kate Middleton,the Duchess of Cambridge is to move back in with her mother,temporarily,after her baby is born in July,media reported Saturday. In a break with royal tradition,Kate,31,will live with her parents for at least the first six weeks after leaving hospital. The decision means the newborn,third-in-line to the throne,will be starting life in a commoners home in Berkshire rather than in the splendour of a royal residence. Kates parents,Michael and Carole Middleton,recently bought a spacious Georgian manor in rural Berkshire for a reported sum of GBP 4.85 million. Kate said she just feels safest and most secure with her family. PTI
