NDA decides: No stalling House

Monsoon Session: BJP readies own ammo,to raise Chinese incursions,MDM deaths

The NDA has decided to not disrupt parliamentary proceedings during the Monsoon Session beginning Monday in case the members of the ruling Congress or the SP and the BSP — the two parties which support the UPA from outside — create ruckus in the House.

This was decided at the meeting of the coalition chaired by NDA parliamentary party leader L K Advani here Sunday. Sources disclosed that the decision stems from a perception that Congress members from Andhra Pradesh would protest against the creation of Telangana.

“The BJP,on its part,is in favour of smooth functioning of Parliament. But we fear that the mishandling of Telangana affair by the Congress will adversely impact the functioning of Parliament,” said BJP deputy leader in

Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The NDA is of the opinion that SP members may also disrupt the House in the wake of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the suspension of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal. The coalition’s strategy is

designed to send a message that it is the Congress which is not interested in running

Parliament,while they favour meaningful discussions.

The leaders, meanwhile, identified issues including Telangana statehood, fall in the value of rupee, the CBI-IB confrontation in the Ishrat encounter case and the Uttarakhand floods on which they will corner the the government.

Earlier in the day,the executive committee of the BJP parliamentary party also decided to raise issues like the Chinese incursions, infiltration from across the border, midday meal tragedy in Bihar and issue of Tamil Nadu fishermen being detained by Sri Lankan Navy.

The party will also focus on the alleged misuse of the CBI into the investigation of the cash-for-appointment scam in the Railways. During the two-hour long session, the party leaders were briefed at length by lawyer and former MP Satyapal Jain regarding the CBI’s chargesheet in the case in which the agency has drafted former Railways Minister Pawan Bansal as a witness. The BJP had disrupted the second half of the Budget Session demanding Bansal’s resignation.

The party’s renewed interests indicated its plans to corner the government on the issue of misuse of the CBI. “The CBI chargesheet has ample material evidence to indicate how not only Bansal was in link with the accused but also senior Congress leaders were also in the know,” said Prasad.
