Chennai Super Kings official Gurunath Meiyappan has confessed that he revealed to betting accused Vindoo Dara Singh that two good players of the IPL team would not be playing in a particular match,Mumbai Police sources said. However,Meiyappan claims not to remember which match that was.
The police have now zeroed in on some matches of CSK in IPL Season 6,and are interrogating both Meiyappan and Vindoo to find out if inside information was leaked out at the time of these matches.
Meiyappan, remanded in custody till May 29,was Sunday suspended by the BCCI from involvement in cricket and CSK,pending inquiry.
Meiyappan was confronted with Vindoo for the first time on Sunday. Sab kuch bata do,kuch mat chhupao (Tell everything, hide nothing). Cooperate fully with the police, Vindoo told Meiyappan, according to officials present.
Meiyappan claimed it was Vindoo who introduced him to the betting world. He urged him to bet on some matches of the IPL Season 6,and he won on five. Vindoo, according to Meiyappan, then encouraged him to bet further, after which he sustained some losses. It was then that Vindoo suggested he find out information like composition and strategies of the CSK team, which would help him place his money better, said a Crime Branch officer.
Meiyappans Chennai residence was raided by a Mumbai Police team Sunday. Searches were continuing,Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy said.
