Unidentified miscreants killed eight migrant coal-mine labourers at Nangalbibra

Unidentified miscreants killed eight migrant coal-mine labourers at Nangalbibra in the South Garo Hill district of Meghalaya late Sunday night.

Deputy commissioner C P Gotmare said about 50 miscreants attacked the labourers at around 11.30 pm on Sunday. Three labourers hailing from East Garo Hills were injured.

Assam home secretary G D Tripathi said seven of the victims were from Goalpara district and one from Dhubri district. The Assam government has asked Meghalaya to strengthen security in the area, Tripathi said.

The Meghalaya government has announced Rs 3 lakh ex-gratia to the victims kin.Tripathi said the bodies have been recovered and that they will be handed over on Tuesday after post-mortem is conducted.
