Man ‘held hostage’,Ramdev kin booked

An FIR has been lodged against Ramdevs younger brother Rambharat and a few security guards under sections 365 of the IPC.

Nitin Tyagi,a youth who was allegedly held hostage and tortured on the premises of yoga guru Baba Ramdevs Patanjali Yogpeeth, was rescued by the Hardwar police Monday night.

An FIR has been lodged against Ramdevs younger brother Rambharat and a few security guards under sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting),342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and 323 (punishment for voluntary causing hurt) of the IPC.

SSP (Hardwar) Rajeev Swarup said Tyagis grandfather Somdutt had lodged an FIR alleging his grandson was illegally confined. We recovered the youth from the premises of Patanjali Yogpeeth, Swarup said.

The police have also arrested one person and efforts are on to arrest Rambharat,he added. There were injury marks on his body, a police source said after Tyagis medical examination.

A group of local BJP leaders, meanwhile, protested in front of the Kankhal police station. Ramdevs men also lodged a complaint against Tyagi who, police said, worked as a watchman at Kankhal ashram about two years ago. The police said Ramdevs men claim that a truck with items was stolen around that time, and allege Tyagis involvement in the incident.

Reacting to the development,Ramdev alleged it was a conspiracy by the Congress as he was exposing the party during his tours. He also said his brother is not an absconder and that the police had so far not called him for interrogation. (With PTI)
