Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Saturday alleged the killing of Umakanto Mahato, prime accused in the Jnaneswari derailment case, was an attempt by the government to tamper with the evidence. Mamata said that killing Mahato when the CBI was probing the case raises many questions. CBI is investigating the case,he (Mahato) was announced wanted by the CBI. In the middle of the inquiry,he died in an encounter. This is an attempt to tamper evidence, Mamata said at a function in Kolkata to mark the foundation day of Chhatra Parishad,Trinamool Congress students wing. The state government is leading such an attempt. It can not be allowed. Mamata alleged the anti-Naxal forces were helping the CPM run about 90 camps in Jungalmahal that house armed CPM cadres and leaders. The ruling party, she alleged, hires killers from Munger, and pays them Rs 1 lakh for a murder. Besides, the CPM cadre kill people and then leave Maoist posters near the bodies. What we have been saying for the past five years, every one is acknowledging now.Look at the Governors report. I am informed that he has also raised the issue of CPM camps running in the area. The Centre also has knowledge of this camps. I say, police should immediately wrap up these camps, Mamata said. If police raid all CPM offices in Jungalmahal,Maoist posters would be recovered, then the game plan of CPM will become clear. They think they will win all 50 Assembly seats in this area. But this will not happen. We will also contest all these seats. CPM would not retain even five seats. Mamata said she was against all killings. I condemn any killing, whether the victim is a policemen or common man. We have also lost many supporters at the hands of Maoists. But now the CPM is taking advantage of the situation. They are killing our supporters using the name of Maoists, she alleged. Advising her supporters to be cautious,Mamata called for creation of a ma mati manus brigade in every village to guard villages against armed CPM cadre. The Chief Minister is giving arms to his cadre. But we will respond in a democratic way. Wait for a few months (till the election), she said.
