The BJP on Wednesday slammed the Liberhan Commission report as a tragedy of errors, citing factual mistakes in the voluminous report and asked how former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee was named by the Commission without even being given a chance to depose and defend himself.
Arun Jaitley,Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, led the partys charge against Justice Liberhan and described him as a 8220;puny8221; judge who prolonged his 8220;self-employment for 17 years.
The Commission is a truth investigator, not a political pundit 8230;The Judge ignored entire evidence and came to a finding8230; he named Vajpayee without calling him for deposing before the Commission as is required under Section 8 b of the Commission of Inquiry Act. Whoever wrote this report misjudged Vajpayees credibility, naming him was an overkill, he said.
Pointing out errors,he said,He errs on basic facts8230;Gets the date of Mahatma Gandhis assassination wrong8230;He says Veer Savarkar was the founder of the RSS8230;puts M A Jinnahs words in the mouth of RSS ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay8230;calls Gulzarilal Nanda a die-hard Hindu8230; and you want the country to take the report seriously? He added that the Commission had a bias against social justice and the Mandal Commission.
Pointing at the 48 extensions given to the Commission,Jaitley mocked at Justice Liberhans recommendation that retired persons should not get employment.
