For Anjana Sukhani, the most interesting part of shooting Department was the technique that director Ram Gopal Varma used. I have never worked with with 5D and 7D cameras, because those are the cameras he uses for shooting his films. These cameras are well-suited for rugged field use and have various scene modes such as standard, portrait, landscape, etc. The best part of using them is that they are the size of a handycam, are light and can be tied to body parts when shooting, resulting in some phenomenal pictures, gushed Anjana.
She goes on to relate how during her wedding scene in which she was shown walking down the stairs with Rana Daggubati,Varma wanted her close-up shots to appear very natural. He tied a camera on my shoulder to get a perfect shot, and sure enough the result was amazing, said the actress, who plays a young Maharastrian doctor married to Rana.
Anjana elaborates that a camera tied to any part of the body can be very painful for an actor. I had to walk slowly for my scene,so it was not all that bad,but I can imagine what Rana must have gone through because the camera was tied to his body when doing hardcore action scenes!
Department releases on May 11.
