In his interrogation by the CBI,former family welfare minister Babu Singh Kushwaha has blamed his then Cabinet colleague and former health minister Anant Mishra and people around him for the murder of former chief medical officers Dr V K Arya and Dr B P Singh,sources said. Also,he is believed to have stated that former deputy CMO Dr Y S Sachan,who died under suspicious circumstances in Lucknow jail in June,was made a scapegoat by the Uttar Pradesh Police at the instance of influential people to shield the guilty. Kushwaha is understood to have told CBI that the two murders were committed to create a scare among the CMOs,who were responsible for implementation of NRHM under a new system,and thereby compel the government to go back to the old system in which NRHM was the responsibility of CMOs of health,whom Mishra controlled. Sources said Kushwaha stated that before he got the charge of family welfare ministry in 2009,Mishra,as the health and family welfare minister,controlled the execution and implementation of NRHM for which the Centre was giving funds. Kushwaha was questioned at the CBI headquarters in Delhi on Tuesday.
