Kin of slain Cong leaders unhappy with govt job offers

Kin of the Congress leaders who died in the Darbha Naxal attack have accused the Raman Singh government

Kin of the Congress leaders who died in the Darbha Naxal attack have accused the Raman Singh government of insulting them by offering them Class III and IV jobs under “anukampa niyukti”.

Many of them, including the relatives of slain PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel,ex-minister Mahendra Karma and ex-MLA Uday Mudaliyar, had recently received letters from the government on the possible jobs for them. “We got a letter from the Dantewada Collector that one member of our family can be made shiksha karmi (Class III) or given a Class IV job. We are asked to submit the application forms,” said Kar-ma’s son,Chhavendra Karma.

Rejecting the government offer,Karma’s elder son Deepak said,“We do not want such “anukampa” (grace). Unless they offer us the post of at least a deputy collector,we will not accept it.” Karma’s another son had recently appeared for UPSC (prelims) exam.

The Congress has termed it an “intolerable insult of martyrs” and demanded that the government withdraw its job offer. Acting PCC chief Charan Das Mahant said,“Both Nand Kumar Patel and Mahendra Karma had been ministers. Dinesh Patel was a highly-educated youth. Uday Mudaliyar was an ex-MLA. By offering their relatives job of peons, the government has insulted their sacrifice.”

Under the government rehab policy for the kin of the Maoist violence victims, one family member of the deceased is given “anukampa niyukti” in Class III and Class IV grade. There is no policy yet for special compensation for the death of a minister or an MLA as the policy is not based on deceased person’s profile.

However, the government has indicated that it would bypass the rules to evolve a different criterion. “The CM has ordered that jobs will be given on the basis of relative’s qualification and hence best options will be explored,” said Principal Secretary (Home) N K Aswal.
