A day before BJP patriarch L K Advani begins his 40-day yatra from Lala Tola of Sitabdiara, the birthplace of Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan or JP,there is heavy tokenism on display. At last, the village will get power supply on Tuesday the birth anniversary of the legendary leader.
Sitabdiara,a village consisting of 27 tolas (parts) situated along Ghaghra and Saryu rivers, falls under Chapra and Ara districts in Bihar and Balia district in Uttar Pradesh. The village has over 1.5 lakh people, and JPs paternal house, now converted into JP memorial, falls under Lala Tola of Sitabdiara under Chapra district.
As most tolas of Sitabdiara fall in the riverine belt,it had not been connected to the main grid. However,Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, himself a product of the JP Movement, has now succeeded in winning over his UP counterpart to supply power to the JP village.
Another token the village would witness is the beginning of the Advani yatra. Although the BJP had earlier announced that Advanis carcade would start from Lala Tola of Sitabdiara, the party had to reschedule the programme because of practical problems such as narrow roads leading to the JP village and waterlogging along the route. Now Advani and Nitish will fly to Sitabdiara and hold public meetings, but the yatra will be flagged off by Nitish at Chapra town, where they will first address a joint public meeting.
Chapra, incidentally, has symbolic significance in terms of state politics as it is represented in Parliament by RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. While the NDA will be trying to send a message of good governance under the Nitish rule,Lalu is in no mood to be cowed down. His party would take out a march to Raj Bhavan against the anti-people policies of Nitish on Tuesday, and Lalu would address people a few hours before the joint show of Advani and Nitish. The Congress, too, has thrown its hat in the ring by announcing that it would show black flags to Advani yatra en route to eight Bihar districts.
