As major political parties gear up for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, the Janata Dal-United is vigorously working on a two-pronged strategy as part of its preliminary preparations to retain its Bihar fortress.

While the state government headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has embarked on a Vikas Yatra to strike a chord with the masses, the party is organising a three-day camp from Tuesday at Rajgir to outline its objectives.

Although it is not a national or state convention, which could have created more hype, the camp will have the presence of all the top party leaders — national president Sharad Yadav, senior leader George Fernandes and the Chief Minister himself.

The camp will come out with economic and political resolutions and dwell on the ongoing Vikas Yatra — during which feedback on governance is being collected from the villages. The resolutions will be aimed at attacking the Centre ahead of the polls.

The agenda does not talk of Lok Sabha preparations but more than 5,000 JD(U) workers will attend the camp,an indication that it won’t be just another political meeting.

Speaking to The Indian Express,Rajya Sabha member and JD(U) national spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari said: “Discussion on the Lok Sabha polls is not on agenda but three resolutions will surely target the Centre that failed on all fronts — from controlling inflation to curbing terrorism.”

Tiwari said the JD(U)’s economic resolution would talk of Bihar’s backwardness and the unequal region-to-region policy of the Centre. “Water management is badly hit in Bihar because the Centre has failed to do anything about flood caused by rivers from Nepal. We have been only hearing about big dams,” said Tiwari.

The economic resolution,he said, would highlight how the UPA government had been sitting idle on Bihar’s Rs 14,800-crore special flood-relief demand. “With the election code of conduct expected within two months,we are afraid Kosi people will continue to suffer because of the Centre’s step-motherly attitude,” he said.
