A state Congress leader claimed that an extreme situation is developing in Jamnagar district as Cairn India was exploiting farmers by acquiring lands at cheap rates.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha,Vikram Maadam said Cairn India which was extending its work from Barmer in Rajasthan to Gujarat was forcing farmers to sell land for just Rs 40,000 per acre. At a time when agitating farmers in Aligarh are demanding more than Rs 4 lakh, farmers in Gujarat are being forced by the company to sell land at cheap rate under pressure from the mafia and the administration,he alleged.

He said an explosive situation was developing in the district and something untoward could happen there in the near future if prompt steps were not taken to pacify the farmers.
