The state government has decided to reopen the case of a 30-year-old man who was shot dead in 2005 by an Army jawan without any apparent provocation. The Army had claimed to have killed Surinder Kumar suspecting him to be a “fidayeen”,saying he had entered the 325 Field Ambulance Unit and “thrown a grenade-like object” towards a sentry. Five years later, police closed the case. Nowshera SDM Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary on Tuesday wrote letters to Army and the police seeking details of the incident. He also asked why no FIR was lodged.
