Bringing relief to the Jammu and Kashmir government,the striking doctors on Tuesday decided to call off their stir and resume duties from Wednesday. The doctors,who were on strike for the past 23 days,reached an agreement with the government in which it was decided that a committee of doctors will discuss the modalities for pay hike with the state government. A government spokesperson on Tuesday said the doctors have decided to resume duties after an assurance that their issues would be resolved by November 16. It was decided that the suspension orders issued earlier by the government against some of the doctors would be revoked. The representatives of the Doctors Joint Action Committee (DJAC) on Tuesday held a meeting with the government committee comprising among others Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather and Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma. DJAC convenor Satyainder Singh said it was decided that a six-member doctors committee from Jammu and Srinagar will work out the modalities for increasing their salary. He,however,said the government has told them there will be no change in the pay band but the loss incurred due to lower pay band will be borne by the state by giving them other incentives.
