IMG to take call on key coal blocks today
Coal ministry has intensified efforts to make the requisitioned files available to the agency.
An inter-ministerial group (IMG) would decide the fate of key coal blocks when it meets on Tuesday. These are the blocks against which the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered FIRs for various irregularities.
In its last meeting on July 19,the IMG of the coal ministry remained undecided on the action to be taken against the 13 blocks. As per the IMGs recommendations,of the 13 captive blocks, the ministry has cancelled allocation of two mines North Dhadu in Jharkhand allocated to Jharkhand Ispat,Pawanjay Steel and Power,Adhuhik Alloys and one more firm and Lohara (East) in Mahasrashtra allotted to Murli Ago Industries and Grace Industries Ltd.
At the behest of the IMG,the coal ministry had approached the law ministry in April to ascertain the panel competence to review the cases against which FIRs have been filed. The law ministry has reverted back saying the IMG is empowered to do so,but as per its terms of reference, the consequent actions would be subject to the Supreme Courts impending judgment, a senior coal ministry official told The Indian Express. On Tuesdays meeting the IMG is likely to give an audience to promoters of Castron Mining company who were allocated Brahamdiha coal block in Jharkhand in 1999. Also the holders of Bhandak mine in Maharashtra are expected to clarify the delays in meeting the stipulated milestones.
