A suspected Indian Mujahideen IM operative was arrested from northeast Delhis Karawal Nagar area on Tuesday night, the police said. They claimed to have recovered one kilogram explosives,a timer and a detonator from his possession.
The accused was identified as Asadullah Rehman alias Dilkash,20,a resident of Darbhanga in Bihar. The police said he was very close to key IM man Yasin Bhatkal, who is currently absconding and has a red corner notice against him.
The police said Rehman was posing as an engineering student and had taken a room on rent in Karawal Nagar. He had enrolled himself for technical course in Darbhanga after completing his Class XII in 2010.
According to the police,Rehman came into the IM fold about a year ago after he came in contact with Mohammad Kafeel Ahmad who lives close to his village. Ahmad was arrested in November last year. It was in February 2011 that Ahmad introduced Rehman to Yasin Bhatkal and he gradually became close to him. It was on Bhatkals direction that Rehman fled with the explosives from Nangloi, said Ashok Chand,Deputy Commissioner of Police.
In November 2011,Delhi Police had arrested six IM members from Delhi and busted an ammunition factory in Meer Vihar area of Nangloi in west Delhi. Police had recovered large amount of explosives and arms from the factory.
In April last year,on instructions from Bhatkal,Rehman reached Delhi and was taken to the factory. There he learnt to work on the lathe machine and assisted other accused Mohd Irshad and Bhatkal in allegedly manufacturing pistols and other arms and ammunition. He became a trusted aide of Bhatkal, said the officer.
He was in regular touch with Bhatkal and it was on his directions that he came back to Delhi to set up a base. We recovered the explosives from his rented accommodation, said the officer.
After fleeing from Delhi in November 2011,Rehman went to Mumbai. He started working at a construction site at Ambi Valley, near Khandala Ghat,as a supervisor for two months. Bhatkal wanted him to acquire expertise on lathe machine for manufacturing of arms and ammunition,so he shifted to Kurla where he started working in a lathe factory, officials said.
In the middle of February 2012,he left Mumbai and went to Nepal and then came back to Delhi again, said a police officer.
