Jnanpith Award winning author U R Ananthamurthy and entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar Shaw are among three people who have been appointed on the Board of Trustees of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA),one of the most prestigious cultural organisations in the country. The third person appointed on the Trust is noted Bharatnatyam dancer Padma Subramanium. Ananthamurthy,one of the most famous contemporary Kannada writers,and Subramanium have both been honoured with Padma Bhushan. Their knowledge and experience in Indias cultural heritage is likely to bring more depth in the deliberations of the Trust which is currently dominated by bureaucrats and foreign policy experts. With the additions,the IGNCA trust will now have 12 members. Meanwhile,cultural historian Jyotindra Jain is all set to be named the interim Member-Secretary of IGNCA following the end of tenure of incumbent K K Chakravarty later this week. Jains appointment has been cleared by the Culture Ministry,sources said.
