TV show hosts Durga Jasraj’s and Annu Kapoor’s latest music show,Idea Jalsa,is the first to go on air –– literally. The show, which started in 2008,is among the first Indian television series to be streamed on Air-India flights. From Jagjit Singh to Wadali Brothers and Pandit Jasraj, flyers can now choose from different genres as they travel. “We have a rich repository of works performed by musicians from across India. The show is not a competition. Rather, the live performances by India’s talents works as a quick introduction to the country’s rich heritage,” says Jasraj. “Our show will be featured on all five channels on Air- India’s flights. There is a dearth of quality videos on Indian music channels. And since we shot these performances for a television show,it makes for great viewing. People can pick from Hindustani classical,Carnatic, film,Sufi etc.,so we have covered the tastes of pretty much everyone.”

Idea Jalsa is the only programme that presents diverse genres and forms of Indian music in an authentic manner, with world-class production quality levels. It is an initiative of the Indian Music Academy, which was founded by Pandit Jasraj to promote and popularise the rich musical heritage of our vast country. This project, over the years, has resulted in the creation of a treasure trove of high-quality audio-video performances by living legends, young maestros and the next generation. It has also been dubbed in many regional languages and adapted for radio programming.
