Desi Girl
Friday 8211; Saturday,9.00 pm,Imagine
Eight city girls with their killer heels, plunging necklines, rising hemlines and a blasé attitude are in the midst of poor wide-eyed men and giggly women in a village in Chandigarh. Monica Bedi,Kashmeera Shah,Sambhavna Seth,Ishita Arun,Anmol,Aushima Sawhney,Rucha Gujrati and Roshni Chopra are the contenders.
Two girls are given a family read shelter to live with and in return the butterflies are expected to do all the household chores like making dung cakes which had the girls promptly wearing gloves and plastic clips on their noses; Aushima even did a quick manicure, making chulha, scrubbing floors, washing clothes and utensils etc when they are not chasing murgis, playing tug of war and falling badly or rehearsing for bhangra dance competitions, which are tasks they have to win to get home a sparkling cutlery set for their hosts or save themselves from the elimination or gaanvnikala as host Rohit Roy calls it.
Yes,like most reality shows, this one looks staged too what with rumours of Kashmera already being a finalist but then we guess its time we took these shows with a generous pinch of salt.
Though we wish, the girls were shown interacting more with their hosts, the families, the villagers. You hardly see them adjusting to the rigours of a village life except for a token clip like turning their nose while making dung cakes or waking up at 4 in the morning to milk the cows. Also,we wish the tasks were more in tune with the village life we mean, why a dance competition to win over the villagers? Honestly,we are a little tired watching Saroj Khan in every Imagine reality show
give us a break guys like why not have something where they teach village kids or walk miles to the village well to draw water or some such!
All said and done,Desi Girls is fun while it lasts.
Verdict:
You just might catch a glimpse of the difficult village life amidst the orchestrated drama!
