For the first time,India has claimed that Lashkar-e-Toiba chief Hafiz Saeed was not just involved in planning and coordinating the 26/11 attacks,but could have been present in the control room from where instructions were being passed on to the 10 terrorists who attacked Mumbai.
Home Minister P Chidambaram today told reporters that the interrogation of Sayyed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal,suspected to be a key planner of the 26/11 attacks,had clearly established that a control room had been set up in Pakistan to direct the operations in Mumbai.
But he did say that Ansaris arrest was a major achievement. He was a key operative,assigned the responsibility of putting the 10 terrorists through intensive training…He was the key person who briefed these 10 people,including Ajmal Kasab. He (Ansari) had an important role to play in that control room, said Chidambaram.
On Pakistans Senior Advisor on Interior Affairs Rehman Maliks remarks that Ansari was an Indian citizen,Chidambaram said: I agree that Abu Jundal is an Indian citizen. Perhaps he was radicalised in India. But equally,he (Rehman Malik) should admit that Abu Jundal did go to Pakistan,that he was part of the group which trained and prepared Kasab and nine others. And that Abu Jundal was in the control room … Just as we admit the facts,Pakistan too should admit these facts.
