To check the circulation of fake currency,the government is planning to enhance security features of currency notes. The Centre is working towards production of indigenous raw material for making bank notes,finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said today.
The minister added that this will help in producing around 80-85 per cent bank note paper in the country in the next three years against an import of about 95 per cent paper currently.
To check this menace of fake currency,an exercise for introduction of security features in all denominations of Indian bank notes is under way, the finance minister said after releasing the new procurement manual of Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd.
Currency notes and coins with new Rupee symbol will be in circulation in July,Mukherjee said.
