Govt fields young ministers in front

The government is learnt to have decided to deploy a battery of young Congress ministers to articulate its policies and viewpoints to the press

The government is learnt to have decided to deploy a battery of young Congress ministers to articulate its policies and viewpoints to the press.

The Group of Ministers on Media, headed by Home Minister P Chidambaram, has decided to rope in Milind Deora,Jitin Prasada,RP N Singh,Jyotiraditya Scindia,Ajay Maken,D Purandeswari,Rajiv Shukla,Sachin Pilot,Pallam Raju and Krishna Tirath to present the government’s stance on various issues of importance on a day to day basis.

The GoM was constituted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh early this year to better communicate the government’s policies and decisions to the public in view of the growing perception of a sense of drift in the scandal-hit UPA II.

The members of the GoM — Ambika Soni,Ghulam Nabi Azad,Kapil Sibal,Salman Khurshid,Pawan Bansal and V Narayansamy — have been engaging with the media in times of crises. Sources said the young ministers, armed with position papers from the concerned departments, will be fielded to present the government’s views on discussions taking place in the media.
