Giving a divine twist to the ongoing Telangana strike, priests across the region shut doors of all the temples saying they, too, were joining the strike.
As Gods were given a break on Tuesday morning, devotees found all the temples closed while the priests squatted outside refusing to let anyone in or perform any of the rituals. At some places they allowed darshan but not rituals while other temples are totally closed, said Yogendra Sarma, head of priests who joined the Telangana Joint Action Committee. The strike by the priests not only left pilgrims in the lurch but also resulted in huge losses especially at famous temples of Yadagirigutta in Nalgonda and Bhadrachalam.
The fortnight-old general strike has started showing affects on industry, business and general public. While three-wheelers were back on the roads on Tuesday, state transport remained affected. Educational institutions remained shut while small and medium scale industries were forced to shut down for the second day on Tuesday.
